Suffolk Fire Apparatus & Quartermaster Facility

A. R. Chesson Construction is working with the city of Suffolk to construct a 7,214 square foot, one-story fire apparatus and quartermaster facility. The apparatus bays located behind the existing fire station will house additional response vehicles for Suffolk’s Fire Department, the quartermaster office, and storage rooms.

Lynnhaven Middle School- An Achievable Dream

An Achievable Dream is a nonprofit organization with a unique structure and goal: partnering with public school districts to co-operate schools in primarily underserved communities, providing additional resources to level the playing field for all students.

Martin County Schools - Career & Technical Center - Innovation Campus

A. R. Chesson Construction has completed the Career & Technical Center - Innovation Campus for Martin County Schools. The project was funded by an NCDPI Capital Needs Grant to support education in Health Sciences, Business, Industrial Arts, & STEM.

The innovative design by Oakley Collier Architects, PA will be used to support up to 200 students as well as provide space for programs and training for MCC students, local industries, and government.

A. R. CHESSON CONSTRUCTION’S SIXTEENTH CONSECUTIVE GOLD AWARD

Zach Beachem, Assistant Project Manager and Safety Professional at ARCC, attended the 2021 N.C. Department of Labor’s Safety Awards banquet on September 21, 2021. A. R. Chesson Construction Company earned their 16th consecutive Gold Safety Award, even during a pandemic.

This award recognizes the firm has had ZERO on-site or work-related injuries, an injury incidence rate that is unusual in the construction industry average.

The N.C. Department of Labor’s Safety Awards Program recognizes private and public firms throughout the state who achieve and maintain excellent safety records. Administered through the department’s Bureau of the Occupational Safety and Health division, the program is designed to stimulate interest in accident prevention and to promote safety in the workplace by providing an incentive to employers and employees for regularly maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.

The 2021 NCDOL Safety Awards banquet also marked another milestone for the health and safety community. After 20 years of devoted service, Mrs. Cherie Berry, the previous N.C Commissioner of Labor, announced earlier this year that she would not seek re-election.

Her successor, Mr. Josh Dobson, was sworn in as North Carolina’s labor commissioner on Jan. 2, 2021, after serving eight years in the state House of Representatives. Dobson has also served as the chairman of the Health and Human Services Appropriations Committee and the House Health Committee.

At the awards program, Mr. Dobson gave an inspirational presentation about safety in the workplace, companies staying diligent on employee safety, and the implementation and interaction of occupational health and safety programs.

Mr. Beachem is pictured accepting the award on behalf of A. R. Chesson Construction employees which will be placed in the Williamston office wall of safety awards and other outstanding construction merit honors.

USACE-Field Research Facility Duck, NC

A. R. Chesson Construction is proud to partner with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). We are building a new office building to expand the laboratories and offices of the USACE-Field Research Facility. Located on the Atlantic Ocean near the town of Duck, North Carolina, the Field Research Facility (FRF) is an internationally recognized coastal observatory. Instruments at the facility constantly record the changing waves, winds, tides, and currents. Central to the facility is an 1840-foot-long pier and specialized vehicles. The FRF was established in 1977 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is part of the Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory

A. R. Chesson Construction Receives their 15th Consecutive Gold Award for Safety

The Greenville Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual NC Department of Labor Safety Awards Banquet virtually on Thursday, October 8, 2020. Companies and municipalities from the area were awarded certificates and plaques for their safe-work records. A. R. Chesson Construction Company was awarded their fifteenth consecutive Gold Award for Safety by Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry. Commissioner Berry offered her congratulations and sincere thanks to the men and women of A. R. Chesson Construction Company for their dedication to safety which has resulted in their outstanding record. Safety Coordinator Andy Holliman accepted the award on behalf of the firm.

Northeast NC Trades Training Center

A. R. Chesson Construction is looking to break ground on this project in a couple of weeks. It will be a fast-moving project and should be done by Jan. 1st. The building will be constructed on the former Sonic Drive-in site and the 3,000 square-foot building will feature two large classrooms and an office space. The Golden Leaf Foundation provided a $500,000 grant to cover the project's start-up cost.

The center will provide job training in trade jobs, such as landscaping and plumbing, for ages 18 and older in the surrounding counties which include: Camden, Currituck, Chowan, Gates, Pasquotank and Perquimans.

Dare County Department of Health & Social Services

A. R. Chesson Construction has been chosen as the Construction Manager at Risk by the Dare County for the Addition and Renovations of the Department of Health & Social Services complex located in Manteo, North Carolina.

The project consists of an addition and renovations to the existing Dare County Department of Health and Human Services Facility. The existing buildings are two-stories, elevated wood-framed floor structure over crawl space, cedar siding, cementitious siding, steel-framed buildings with associated interior renovations and upgrades to the existing facilities. The new addition is approximately 6,500 square feet with a proposed elevated finish floor elevation of 13.00 to match existing finished floor elevation.

New Dixie Mart of Gaston

The town of Gaston, Northampton County officials, and three chambers of commerce celebrated the opening of New Dixie Mart — a facility which combines the convenience store with Subway and Mama Deluca’s Pizza.

"It is a 6,000-square-foot building with the store occupying about 4,200-square-feet, and Subway and the pizza store occupying around 1,600-square-feet," said Scott Aman, president of New Dixie.

The store has 16 fueling stations and construction is expected to begin next week on an automatic car wash. Aman said that the store will be open 24 hours.
