A. R. Chesson Construction is currently working on a renovation to the building located at 601 East Main Street in Elizabeth City, NC. Funding for the renovation is made possible through the Elizabeth City Downtown Improvement Grant Program (DIG).
DIG is a part of the city’s goal to encourage economic development and is designed to address safety issues and improve the aesthetics for the downtown district. The improvements for this project scored high on all four DIG program goals: Occupancy & Job Creation; Life Safety Codes(s) Compliance; Exterior Aesthetic & Façade (upgrades); and Interior Remodel/Renovation. This project represents Elizabeth City’s support of business development and job creation in the downtown area.
Façade enhancement for this prominent building located across the street from Arts of the Albemarle in downtown Elizabeth City, which has been vacant for more than five years, encouraged business owners to lease both floors of the building. The first floor is now occupied by Serenity Studio Arts and the second floor will soon be a photography studio for three local photographers.
The scope of work included a much needed rehabilitation of the exterior, stucco repair, joint sealants, cleaning and painting. Interior improvements will bring the building in compliance with current life safety, energy and accessibility codes.
