Al R. Chesson, grew up in Williamston, N.C. and was educated at
The University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1977. In 1979, He joined D.G. Manning Construction Company as superintendent.
He founded A. R. Chesson Construction Company, Inc. in 1981 to build residential and commercial buildings. In 1986, the company shifted its focus to entirely commercial and industrial buildings with its primary market area in Eastern North Carolina.
As President, Al has established A. R. Chesson Construction Company as a leader in the region in design/build construction, project management and development services for new construction, renovations and expansions, from offices in Williamston, Elizabeth City, and Manteo, N.C. Projects include industrial buildings, medical offices, multi-family dwellings, schools and recreational, retail, historical additions and restoration, and ecclesiastical facilities in Eastern North Carolina and Virginia.
CORPORATE SECRETARY, CFO
Graduate of St. Mary’s College and Pan American School of Business, Margaret serves as CFO providing oversight of corporate accounting, financial statements, reporting and audits, payroll and human resources. Outside interests include various Church and community volunteering activities.
Doug Chesson graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Relations, Emphasis – Economics and Political Science. He studied Computer Assisted Drawing at Pitt Community College from 1999 to 2000 with basic and advanced design.
Doug joined the company in 1982 and has helped build it from its infancy. He now is the Area Manager of Manteo Office covering the Intercostal regions of Eastern North Carolina including Dare, Hyde, Tyrrell, Washington and Martin Counties. Doug’s emphasis is on project development, design and construction management.
Doug holds a NC General Contractor’s License.
Vice President of Pre-Engineered Operations
Kirk Nixon has erected well over 2,000 pre-engineered buildings during his 30 years in the industry. Kirk joined the company in 2010 to spearhead the Pre-Engineered Building Division. Under his direction, the company’s PEMB Division has focused on heavy industrial and military work, in addition to design build, commercial, agricultural and public bid work.
Carrie Baker joined A. R. Chesson Construction in 2014, bringing substantial business management experience to her position. In 2016 she was promoted to Vice President of Business Operations for the Albemarle Region. Carrie’s position as Vice President is unusual in the male dominated construction industry.
Carrie has been instrumental in streamlining the company’s project management operational processes as well as working to increase the firm’s community involvement. She has recently initiated a company-wide volunteer awareness program.
Billie graduated in 1996 from The College of William & Mary with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
She joined the Company in 2005 with a wide variety of experience from other companies. In 2016, Billie was promoted to Corporate Vice President of Contract Management. She is involved in daily company operations, and is responsible for overseeing the daily financial operations, including supervising the work of the company's accounts receivable and accounts payable sections. Billie is responsible for producing accurate job-cost accounting reports, participating in audits and preparing reports for regulators.
